No doubt the International Women’s Day, IWD has come and gone. However, the positive impact trail on individuals, corporations and organizations, of such are the ACCA   cannot be underestimated.
The umbrella body of accountants,
is the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants,
ACCA.
A recent virtual event tagged:  ‘Equal opportunities for a better world’ set
the global premise of the annual awareness-raising and celebratory occasion.
The theme event was designed to inspire and enable action to create a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.
The event was a first of its kind, a pan-African two-day engagement that celebrated diversity and how women could challenge bias.
ACCA President
ACCA president, Orla Collins
said, “ACCA has a moral obligation to play our part and to serve as leaders on the issue of gender equality. That responsibility falls to us as the most influential professional accountancy body globally. This is the time for us to stand up and do our duty. It is the correct and only course of action.
Our granddaughters will not forgive us if we don’t do everything in our power to make a world a place where a girl’s dreams have just as much a chance of coming true as those of their brothers.”
The event that cut across Africa brought together six seasoned thought leaders and speakers to engage with ACCA’s current and future members, including Peace Masozera Uwase, Executive Director of the Financial Stability Directorate at the National Bank of Rwanda’s own experience of her career path. Peace challenged leaders to be more sensitive to gender-specific needs in shaping work culture while eliminating unconscious bias against feminine qualities and encouraging everyone to speak up against prejudice and stereotypes in the workplace.
Tom Isibor
Head of ACCA Nigeria, Tom Isibor,
said,”This serves as a much-needed platform for critical conversations around the impact of gender bias on Africa’s business ecosystem and the profession, to inspire and enable action-steps to #BreaktheBias”.
