Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris has urged the Senate to review outdated laws in the information sector to modernize things and improve the performance of parastatals under the Ministry.

He made the plea during an interactive session with members of the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation at the National Assembly yesterday.

The Minister said the Ministry’s main focus is to provide credible and timely information to Nigerians. He wants to disprove the idea that it’s just a propaganda organ and instead use strategic communication for the benefit of everyone.

Idris also talked about areas where he’d like support from the National Assembly, like the review of enabling laws and increased funding. He also mentioned the Ministry’s plan to launch a “National Citizens Campaign” to encourage discussions about citizenship, patriotism, and values.
