NCC Launches 2-Day Inquiry, Targets Telecom Industry Advancements

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commenced a two-day Public Inquiry into three key regulatory instruments aimed at advancing the telecommunications sector.

The event, held at the NCC Headquarters in Abuja, reflects the NCC’s commitment to inclusivity and stakeholder engagement in its regulatory processes.

The Executive Vice Chairman,NCC, Aminu Maida, highlighted the event’s significance, emphasizing the importance of participant contributions in shaping the future of the communications industry.

“Our goal is to foster an efficient, accessible, and competitive telecom industry,” Maida stated.

“This Public Inquiry underscores our dedication to transparency and ensuring that the voices of all stakeholders are heard and considered.”

He further outlined the regulatory instruments under review, including the Telecommunications Networks Interconnect Regulations, Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators, and Guidelines for Dispute Resolution. Each instrument is critical in addressing emerging industry challenges, promoting competition, protecting consumer interests, and maintaining regulatory efficiency.

The Acting Head of Legal and Regulatory Services, NCC, Chizua Whyte, welcomed participants and stressed the importance of collaborative dialogue.

“Your valuable insights and feedback are crucial as we seek to refine these regulations,” she said.

The inquiry aims to align Nigeria’s telecommunications framework with international standards and technological advancements, ensuring a robust and resilient sector capable of meeting the demands of the digital age.
