The umbrella body of professional female writers, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists(NAWOJ), Lagos state Council has tasked the federal government on the security of the nation, asking it to desist from lip service.
NAWOJ in its signed statement after its July 3, 2021 Congress said insecurity has plaqued the country beyond wildest imagination.
It said aside insecurity, incessant kidnappings, robbery and killings of innocent citizens, the alarming rate of drug abuse by younger generation, rising cost of living and the need for the government to properly equip the Armed Forces are issues that need quick solution.
The body also called on the Federal and other tiers of government especially Lagos state to eschew selective measures in tackling the menace but rather apply a holistic approach in eradicating it.
“Beef up security at the Lagos / Ibadan express way, as majority of the citizens working in Lagos State live within that axis,as well as other areas in Lagos. And
that drug abuse is a fundamental issue that requires the attention of both the federal and state government”.
Nawoj further stated that Nigerian women should rise up and intercede for the country through prayers. And a crucial need for mentorship programmes to sensitise the younger generation on the dangers of indulging in drug usage.
